Pro Bono and Citizenship

Inspired by our clients and by our professional responsibility as lawyers, social impact and a sense of justice underpin everything we aspire to achieve as a responsible business. Reflecting our global outlook, our pro bono and citizenship initiatives focus on building the rule of law, social inclusion, capacity building and the far-reaching implications of climate change. They fall broadly within three areas: pro bono legal services, community partnerships and sustainable business practices.

Pro bono: Herbert Smith Freehills has a significant history of providing pro bono legal services to clients including charities, NGOs, the governments of developing nations and marginalised individuals. We are extremely proud of the outcomes our clients achieve for the communities in which we live and work, and the relationships and reputation we have built along the way. Pro bono work is an essential part of our professional responsibility and is treated exactly the same as any other client work.

Community: Our community program balances Herbert Smith Freehills' strategic global and regional initiatives with those of our own community committee, which responds to community priorities in Indonesia. Our activities include supporting charities through fundraising and providing mentoring opportunities for young people.

Sustainability: We are rising to the challenges and opportunities of an interconnected world in which climate change has the potential to affect every community. And we are committed to creating a truly sustainable professional services business.
