Michelle is a Herbert Smith Freehills Of Counsel on secondment to HBT. She focuses on the financial services and technology sectors, with expertise in both transactional and advisory work. Michelle is a member of Herbert Smith Freehills’ Digital Law Group and is the Pro Bono lead at HBT.

Experience

Michelle’s practice spans both transactional and advisory work in the financial services and technology sectors. She is recognised by Chambers and Partners as a Notable FinTech Practitioner and a Corporate/M&A Associate to Watch in Indonesia.

Michelle advises clients in the digital economy sector on investment structuring, licensing, and roll-out of new business models. She represents clients in fundraising, joint ventures, M&A and other corporate transactions, as well as commercial and business collaboration arrangements.

Her clients range from established players including banks, insurance companies and telecommunication providers, to new market entrants such as e-money and other payment companies, digital platforms and cryptocurrency exchanges.

Background

Michelle graduated from the National University of Singapore. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills and HBT, she worked in the Singapore office of another international firm, representing banks and other clients in cross-border and multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes. She also worked at the Singapore and Jakarta offices of an international investment bank, providing advice on bilateral and syndicated lending, data privacy and outsourcing, and corporate banking product roll-outs across APAC. Michelle is fluent in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
